Lamberth strikes down promotion process

TUESDAY, MARCH 5, 2002 U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth on Monday struck down an Army promotion process because he ruled it discriminated against white men. Lamberth said the Army relies too much on race and gender to promote officers. As such, it is unconstitutional, he ruled. The case involved retired Lt. Col. Raymond Saunders, a white officer. He sued after he was denied promotion twice for the rank of colonel. Get the Story:
