Navajo tribal members seeking changes
THURSDAY, MARCH 14, 2002

A committee has been set up to review potential changes to the way the Navajo Nation government is run.

The Commission on Navajo Government Development will review amendments to the tribe's governing documents in advance of a tribal-wide reform convention in May. The changes largely deal with the separation of powers between the council, which acts as a legislative body, and the executive, headed by a tribal president.

Powers of local chapter governments are also under consideration.
