Cross-deputization sought at Navajo

Police in Shiprock, New Mexico, would finally have the power to issue citations to Indian motorists on the Navajo Nation under a new proposal being offered.

Navajo Nation police can stop and issue citations to Indian and non-Indian drivers. Cross-deputization would extend the same to Shiprock police, who currently can stop Indian drivers but must call a Navajo officer to do the rest.
