THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2002 A Democrat seeking his party's nomination for a Congressional seat in Connecticut wants the federal government to pay for research undertaken by groups seeking federal recognition. That way, petitioners won't have to seek outside sources of funding, said Shawn Fisher. Fisher claims this would eliminate casino influence on recognition. In exchange, petitioning groups would just have to sacrifice their yet-to-be-acknowledged sovereignty. Get the Story:
