A dispute over whether a parcel of land in New Mexico is considered Indian Country is being appealed.

In November 2001, a state judge dismissed criminal charges against a defendant because the incident in question occurred on land still considered within the boundaries of Taos Pueblo. But the local district attorney and the town of Taos say the ruling creates a "no-man's land," according to The Albuquerque Journal, and want the decision reversed.
