Rep. Tim Johnson (R-Ill.) has introduced a bill to kill tribal land claims in Illinois but residents say he is not doing enough to promote it.

The bill would "settle" claims by the Miami Nation of Oklahoma and the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation of Kansas by extinguishing all claims under two treaties. It would also extinguish aboriginal claims.

The only claims that would be permitted all other land disputes but the tribes wouldn't be allowed to sue state or private landowners. Also, the tribes would have to file claims within a year's passage of the act.
