Tribe wants jurisdiction over clinic

Oral arguments were heard on Monday in a case affecting the authority of the Navajo Nation over a county-owned health clinic in Utah.

A tribal judge said the clinic is not a state agency, so the tribe's court should have jurisdiction. The tribal judge ordered ts the clinic to reinstate former employees.

The state, however, says the tribal court has no authority over the clinic, even if it is located in a special district.

The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals will issue a decision on the case sometime in the future.
