THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 2001 The Mohegan Tribe and Nation, Confederation of the Mohegan-Pequot Americans, has declared a building it owns sovereign property and won't allow local zoning inspectors on site nor will they comply with local regulations. The tribe claims its sovereignty has been recognized by a state court and will not comply with local zoning laws until the city of Norwich gets a federal court order requiring them to do so. The group has run up $3,000 in fines so far. Get the Story:
