Unable to lay claim to the office his father once held, Mark Chino said he will contest the nullification of a recent election held by the Mescalero Apache Nation of New Mexico.

Chino was elected earlier this month to run the tribe. But a losing candidate challenged the election and said it was invalid because voting machines were used instead of paper ballots.

The tribal council agreed and nullified the election. Chino, whose late father Wendell Chino led the tribe for decades, said he will try and stop a replacement election from taking place.
