FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2001

A General Accounting Office report on the federal recognition process is due to be released oficially next week, according to a Connecticut paper, but both sides of the argument agree that it raises valid criticisms and problems.

But they can't agree exactly on what those issues are. Former Assistant Kevin Gover says a draft of the study hasn't showed the process is corrupted by money or politics.

But opponents of two Pequot tribes in Connecticut say decision are indeed influenced by casino money and campaign contributions.

The report was commissioned by Republican members of Congress. It was requested in September 2000.
