THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2001

The state of Washington has retroceded criminal jurisidiction to the Tulalip Tribes.

Criminal jurisidiction had been the sole authority of the state under Public Law 280. The tribes will now have jurisdiction over tribal members and members of other federally-recognized tribes.

To go along with the retrocession, the tribes have expanded their police force.
