Oneida Nation won't drop counties from claim

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 8, 2001 The Oneida Nation of New York has no plans to drop two counties from its 27-year-old land claim even though the Justice Department has done so. The Justice Department is also dropping private landowners from the lawsuit and other New York land claims. A federal judge had rejected adding the landowners but said the counties could be sued. The tribe says the federal government's actions don't have an effect on the lawsuit. Get the Story:
