O'odham Nation citizenship considered
TUESDAY, AUGUST 7, 2001

The Pima County board of supervisors will decide today if they want to support an effort by the Tohono O'odham Nation of Arizona to gain US citizenship for all tribal members.

The US Border Patrol has a policy to allow free crossing of tribal members at the US-Mexico border. But many lack the necessary papers to prove US citizenship and the government has cracked down on border crossings.

A bill has been introduced in Congress to grant citizenship to all members.
