Towns have questions for Pequot Tribe

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 29, 2001 Three Connecticut towns on Tuesday submitted six questions about trust lands they want the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation to answer. The questions are part of an ongoing discussion between the towns and the tribe over trust lands. The towns have opposed the tribe seeking additional lands. The tribe has proposed to limit its land-into-trust applications to 880 acres for the next 35 years. The towns aren't sure if they can accept that number. The towns also want the tribe to clarify how much money they'd get for land taken off the local tax rolls. Get the Story:
