Calif. tribe still working on recognition

THURSDAY, AUGUST 2, 2001 A leader of the Ohlone/Costanoan Rumsen-Mutsun Tribe of California says his tribe is learning from this week's decison to deny a related tribe federal recognition. The Bureau of Indian Affairs on Monday declined to acknowledge the Ohlone/Costanoan Muwekma Tribe. BIA researchers said the tribe failed to provide sufficient evidence for three out of seven recognition criteria. Get the Story:
