Pequots hold election

The Eastern Pequot Tribe of Connecticut, a state-recognized tribe elected two new councilors and three incumbents in their weekend election.

Terms for the nine-member council are staggered and each term runs for two years.

The tribe received preliminary federal recognition in March. Three local towns are opposing the tribe and state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal have called for the rescindment of the recognition.
