Policing agreement with Iowa tribe ends

FRIDAY, AUGUST 10, 2001 The Meskwaki Tribe of Iowa hasn't renewed a policing contract with a local county. Tama County Sheriff Dennis Kucera said the tribe hasn't contacted him since July on a new agreement. The previous one ended in October 2000. The tribe might be able to get police services from other law enforcement agencies. The tribe used to have a police force but the federal government ended it. The tribe is trying to re-establish its own justice system. Get the Story:
