TUESDAY, JULY 31, 2001 Robert S. Mueller III went before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday for his first day of confirmation hearings, promising to bring changes to the FBI. Although the FBI has come under fire for a number of recent mishaps, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle welcomed Mueller. Instead of focusing on his qualifications, they addressed the need to change the culture and practices of the troubled agency. Mueller, 56, is to go before the committee again today. He could be confirmed by the full Senate by the end of the week. Listen to the Hearing:
