JULY 12, 2000 Melanie Benjamin was sworn in Tuesday to a four-year term as chair of the Mille Lacs Ojibwe Tribe of Minnesota. Benjamin replaces Marge Anderson, who led the tribe to prosperity and accolades throughout Indian Country. She was named Humanitarian of the Year by the National Indian Gaming Association. Benjamin campaigned on giving a larger voice to tribal members, greater tribal accountability, and potentially giving more of the profits from Grand Casino Mille Lacs to members. Get the Story:
