JUNE 7, 2000

The Bureau of Indian Affairs will meet with Connecticut state and town officials on July 28 to address their opposition to the federal recognition of the Eastern Pequot and Paucatuck Eastern Pequot tribes. The meeting will be held in Washington, DC, and is open to the public. Only Connecticut state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, the towns of Preston, Ledyard, and North Stonington, and the tribes, and their lawyers are allowed to ask questions.

Under the Code of Federal Regulations regarding the recognition process, the BIA is required to hold a formal meeting with interested parties who request it. Comments made during the meeting will go on the record.
