JUNE 21, 2000 The state of South Dakota renewed its fight against the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe's bid to place 91 acres of land near the Oacoma exit on Interstate 90 into trust. Attorney General Mark Barnett filed suit in US District Court, seeking to stop the tribe. Michael Jandreau, chairman of the tribe, said Governor Bill Janklow supports them. The Department of Interior earlier took the land into trust for the tribe in 1990, but revoked status in 1997 after the state succesfully challeged them in court. The tribe applied again in February 1998. Get the Story:
