Paucatucks respond to towns' challenge

JUNE 14, 2000 Lawyers for the Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Tribe of Connecticut wrote their own letter to Secretary of Interior Bruce Babbitt, asking him to ignore a request to revoke their recogition made by the towns of North Stonington, Ledyard, and Preston. The three towns oppose the recognition of their tribe as well the recognition of the Eastern Pequot Tribe. The letter challenges a May 5 letter sent by the towns' law firms and includes a point by point response to all of town's challenges and recommendations to the Interior regarding the recognition process.
