Residents of North Stonington have approved a spending plan that includes more than $100,000 to fight three Connecticut tribes.

The town has budgeted $53,000 to fight land-into-trust applications by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. The town opposes attempts by the tribe to seek more trust land.

The town also has $65,000 budgeted to oppose the federal recognition petitions of the Eastern Pequot Tribe and the Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Tribe. Both received preliminary recognition last March and are due to receive a final decision at the end of the year.
