McVeigh asks for execution delay
JUNE 1, 2001

The defense team of convicted Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh asked a federal judge in Indiana on Thursday to delay his scheduled execution.

McVeigh's lawyers say they were wrongly denied thousands of pages of documents the FBI only recently produced for them. They also said the FBI may be withholding more documents.

Attorney General John Ashcroft says he will oppose any attempts to delay the June 11 execution, the first federal one in 38 years.
