JUNE 1, 2000 The upcoming June 5th elections for the Yaqui tribe in Arizona are exceptionally busy this year, with 55 candidates running for 11 council positions. Chairman Benito Felix Valencia and all other council members are seeking re-election this year. About 7,800 of the tribe's nearly 13,000 members are eligible to vote and although turnout has been low historically, 14 percent, a larger turnout is expected.
