JUNE 11, 2001 Walt Monegan, the first Alaska Native police chief in Anchorage, is reorganizing his department to focus more on community policing and develop a specialized detective force. The executive director of Standing Together Against Rape credits the department with developing the Alaska Native Women's Sexual Assault Committee along with the community.
