The leaders of three Connecticut towns who opppose the expansion of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation have hope their position will be vindicated by a recent Bureau of Indian Affairs letter to another tribe.

The towns say the BIA's March 26 letter to the Shakopee Mdewakanton of Minnesota shows their concerns about the Pequot tribe's land-into-trust application have merit. The towns say the BIA is asking the Shakopee to justify and answer the same types of questions they have of the Pequot tribe.

The BIA in 1998 previously denied the a land-into-trust application the Shakopee filed for 776 acres of land. The tribe recently submitted another application.
