A 1929 executive order by President Hoover took away 50,000 acres from the Alaskan Native village of Elim near Nome, Alaska. On Tuesday, President Clinton signed a law that restored the long-lost acreage to the village's native corporation. The Interior Department had opposed the law until it was discovered that fur trappers had successfully argued the Elim did not need the land.
