MAY 31, 2000 A group called the Madison-Oneida Landowners is planning a survey on the Oneida Nation land claims settlement talks. The group will survey residents of the counties of Madison and Oneida over the next couple of months. Talks between the Oneida and the state have resumed in the past couple of weeks. The tribe successful won its land claims suit in 1985 but settlement talks have stalled several times. A recent proposal includes a $500 million settlement to the Oneida of New York, Wisconsin, and Canada, but the Oneida of New York and the counties are at conflict over the size of the reservation.
