MAY 16, 2001 The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation on Tuesday proposed meeting June 1 with three neighboring Connecticut towns, seeking a second meeting to discuss land disputes. The tribe wants to meet June 1, wrote Chairman Kenneth Reels to freshman Congressman Rob Simmmons (R-Conn.). Simmons is acting as mediator between the tribe and the towns of Ledyard, Preston and North Stonington. The towns don't want the tribe to seek additional trust lands. They have a lawsuit pending in federal court which challenges the Department of Interior's ability to take land into trust for the tribe. The Supreme Court, however, rejected their recent challenge.
