MAY 12, 2000 A Congressional bill proposed by the Five Civilized Tribes in Oklahoma is being challenged by smaller tribes in Oklahoma located with their jurisdictions. The Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole Nations say current law makes it easy for Indian land to be lost. But the Delaware and Keetoowah tribes, within the Cherokee Nation, and the Thlopthlocco Tribal Town, within the Creek Nation, say the bill infringes on their sovereignty. Get the Story:
