MAY 10, 2000 David Rosow, the financial backer and adviser of the Eastern Pequot of Connecticut says federal recognition of the tribe is likely. Along with the Paucatuck Eastern Pequot, the Eastern Pequot received preliminary federal recognition in late March. Rosow says the towns of North Stonington, Ledyard, and Preston should meet with the tribe instead of fighting their recognition. Regarding the shared heritage of the Eastern Pequot and the Paucatuck, he said the Eastern Pequot would accept the Paucatuck as part of their tribe. The Eastern Pequot tribe, with 750 members, is larger than the Paucatuck, with 150. Get the Story:
