Conn. tribes lobby lawmakers

Connecticut tribes are using the power of lobbying to inform lawmakers and others about their plans and goals this legislative session.

The Eastern Pequot Tribe, state-recognized, has hired Tobin, Carberry, O'Malley, Riley and Selinger to represent them at the Legislature, paying the firm $7,500 a month. Tribal officials have also been testifying on a number of bills affecting tribes this session.

The Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Tribe, state-recognized as one tribe with the Eastern Pequots, has hired Roy & LeRoy for $4,000 a month and Coatsworth and Walkovich for $4,000 a month.

The Schaghticoke Tribal Nation, also state-recognized, is spending $72,000 annually for the services of M.P. Guinan Associates.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, federally recognized, uses Business Strategies and Insight for $5,000 a month and Brown Rudnick Freed and Gesmer for $7,500 a month. The Mohegan Tribe, also federally recognized, has retained. Rome Frankel and Associates for $10,000 a month
