APRIL 17, 2001

The Supreme Court on Monday halted the pending execution of Virgnia inmate Walter Mickens Jr.

Mickens was set to be executed today. At issue is whether Mickens' Constitutional rights were violated since his former public defender also represented the man he is convicted of killing.

Mickens was convicted for the 1992 murder of a 17-year-old.
