MARCH 6, 2001 A planned March 12 meeting between the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and three Connecticut towns may not happen if the tribal council votes against the idea. Tribal chairman Kenneth Reels, advisor Tom Tureen, and tribal member John Guevremont met with Congressman Rob Simmons (R-Conn) on Monday to discuss the meeting. The meeting will attempt to find a common ground on land issues that have driven the tribe and towns apart. The towns want the meeting to be public and don't want Tureen to attend. Some say a public meeting could hinder talks, however. Reels said the council plans to vote on accepting the format as early as today. Get the Story:
