MARCH 5, 2001

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation will meet today with freshman Representative Rob Simmons (R-Conn) to discuss a planned meeting with three Connecticut towns who oppose expansion of their reservation.

A meeting has been scheduled for March 12. In preparation, Simmons already met with the leaders of Ledyard, North Stonington, and Preston last Friday.

The towns have stipulated they will only meet if tribal leaders attend and if the meeting is public. The towns also don't want noted Indian rights lawyer Tom Tureen to attend.
