MARCH 21, 2001

Anchorage police on Monday charged a 30-year-old man with 14 counts of sexual assault, three counts of kidnapping and one count of assault in connection with the serial rapes of five Alaska Native women.

Gregory Lemon Poindexter is accused of raping the women between August 2000 and January 2001. He is said to have picked up the women as they walked home after bars in the area closed.

Although Poindexter is only charged with raping Alaska Native women, authorities say they have no evidence he specifically targeted Indian women.
