BIA to house prisoners in Okla. jail

MARCH 20, 2001 The Bureau of Indian Affairs has signed a contract to pay $24 a day to house Indian inmates at a jail in Ottawa County, Oklahoma. The contract ends on June 30 and the BIA will pay for medical expenses. The BIA will house inmates there when space is available. The jail was the subject of a rape charge against a janitor which led to the state terminating its own contract to house inmates there. The charges were eventually dismissed. Get the Story:
