Defense and state attorneys on Wednesday made their closing arguments in a case which has pitted tribal sovereignty against the pursuit of justice.

Kirk Douglas Billie, a member of the Miccosukee Tribe of Florida, is accused of murdering his two sons. Although the alleged crime occurred off the reservation, tribal officials were able to prevent state and federal prosecutors from entering their land to subpoena and question witnesses.

Billie says the deaths were an accident.
