Ariz. Indian committee begins work

The Arizona Legislature's Native American Affairs Committee on Thursday held its first meeting, approving four of the nine bills on its agenda.

The committee was created at the urging of tribal leaders in the state. Rep. Sylvia Laughter, D-Kayenta, co-chairs the committee with Jake Flake, R-Snowflake. Laughter represents a district which includes the Navajo Nation, of which she is a member.
