FEBRUARY 20, 2001

The new members of the South Dakota Tribal Relations Committee hope to change the way the panel works after having passed few resolutions since its creation in 1989.

A former committee member says hardly anyone attended meetings of the 10-member panel. It was designed to address reconciliation issues between the state and nine tribes.

The new members say they will focus on communication and economic development to help make the committee a more effective one.
