Norton asked to rescind Sandia Pueblo ruling

FEBRUARY 14, 2001 Senator Pete Domenici (R-NM) and Representative Heather Wilson (R-NM) on Tuesday asked Secretary of Interior Gale Norton to rescind a decision which corrected the eastern boundary of Sandia Pueblo. The two lawmakers said the ruling, issued on January 19 by the former Interior Solicitor John Leshy, is legally flawed and jeopardizes potential settlements on the tribe's claim to 10,000 acres in the Sandia Mountains. However, the ruling doesn't go into effect until 2002 and only if the parties affected by the decision can't come to an agreement. Get the Story:
