The Environment Committee of the Connecticut legislature on Wednesday raised a bill to provide $1.2 million in funds to help Attorney General Richard Blumenthal monitor and fight the federal recognition process for tribes in the state.

Governor John Rowland denied the request for the funds, so Blumenthal is seeking legislative approval. Blumenthal wants to hire more legal and professional staff to monitor and challenge petitions for federal recognition.
