JANUARY 24, 2001

Kevin Gover, former head of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, is back at work in Washington, DC, working for a law firm and lobbying for Indian tribes.

Gover is working for Steptoe & Johnson. The firm has employed other former Department of Interior employees, including the departed Secretary Bruce Babbitt.

Gover won't say yet what tribes he might represent. But one of his critics, Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, as well as a lawyer for a town challenging one of his old decisions, said they will keep an eye on him.
