Nipmuc Tribe mum on land claims casino

JANUARY 23, 2001 The newly-recognized Nipmuc Nation of Massachusetts isn't yet commenting on whether or not to pursue land claims or a casino in Connecticut. The tribe's ancestral territory includes part of northern Connecticut. They currently own land in Massachusetts. If the tribe pursues a casino in Connecticut, the state's two other gaming tribes would have to renegotiate their gaming compacts. That could result in lowering the percentage of slot revenue they pay to the state. It currently stands at 25 percent. Get the Story:
