DECEMBER 12, 2000 The state of Connecticut still can't track down the original copy of a map denoting the boundaries of the Mashantucket Pequot settlement area and on Monday asked the tribe for it. But the tribe says their version is not the original, just a copy. A laywer for the tribe says the original is most likely in Washington, DC, although a certified copy was supposed to have been provided to the state. Without ever seeing an original of the map, author Jeff Benedict and a local landowner who was sued by the tribe in the 1970s say they have seen the version the tribe has at its museum and they say its the original.
