Land transfers to tribe approved

NOVEMBER 21, 2000 The Montana state Land Board on Monday approved a proposal to give land back to the Crow Tribe. The state is transferring the land to the tribe in exchange for Bureau of Land Management land in other parts of the state. The state land is 20,858 acres worth $2.9 million and the BLM is land is 27,034 acres worth $3.4 million. The land is being returned to the tribe to correct for an 1891 survey error. It will be held in trust for the tribe. The tribe and some private landowners are working on an agreement over some parcels of land. Get the Story:
