Two Connecticut towns in talks with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation have dropped out, citing inadequacies of the tribe's proposal over land-into-trust.

Ledyard and North Stonigton last week said they feel no need to continue meeting with the tribe and will not attend a session scheduled for today. They said the tribe's recent revision does not address finality, taxation or other issues regarding trust lands.

North Stonington may still put the issue to voters, though. Ledyard has decided against it.

Preston First Selectman Robert M. Congdon said that while he may not personally support the proposal, he wants to keep the talks going. He may also put the issue to voters.

The tribe has proposed to limit land-into-trust applications to 880 acres for the next 35 years, make payments in lieu of taxes, waive some sovereign immunity and adhere to loczl zoning regulations.
