OCTOBER 23, 2000 The Department of Justice has awarded the Red Lake Band of Chippewa an $8.8 million grant to build a detention center on the tribe's reservation in Minnesota. The tribe's previous facility burned down in 1979 during a tribal politics dispute. The new facility will have 48 beds and house up to 24 juveniles. The tribe will also provide treatment, education, and other programs. Get the Story:
