Miami Nation presses forth with land claim

OCTOBER 18, 2000 The Miami Nation of Oklahoma is pressing forth with its 2.6 million acre land claim because they say the state of Illinois is not willing to negotiate. The tribe filed lawsuit for the land, citing the 1805 Treaty of Grouse. They filed suit against 15 landowners chosen at random in 15 counties. The state doesn't believe the tribe's lawsuit has merit.
